Please see below for the main purpose of the role:

MAIN DUTIES:  

    • To familiarise themselves with the young person’s social, emotional, sensory, physical and medical needs as well as potential environmental/anxiety triggers.
    • To undertake training as required and take specialist advice regarding useful PDA strategies which minimise anxiety and promote engagement. It is recommended that information and links found at the PDA Society website are referred to. (www.pdasociety.org.uk).
    • In collaboration with involved professionals and parents, prepare, plan and undertake activities and assess progress against agreed learning outcomes.
    • To work with the young person taking into account their interests and preferences in terms of an activity in addition to always considering, what’s important to the individual, as well as what’s important for
    • Social development duties for example conversing with the young person about their interests or concerns; whilst building and maintaining their confidence and trust.
    • Meet the physical needs of the young person whilst encouraging independence. Provide the young person indirect encouragement to communicate, eat, drink and toilet regularly.
    • Contribute to the protection of the young person and maintenance of their safety at all times, administering first aid and/or supporting them to take medication or attend appointments as required.
    • Attend regular meetings, completion of reports and associated activity records on a frequent basis as well as contributing to the monitoring and evaluation process of agreed learning outcomes.
    • Contribute to logging the on-going budget of the educational package and maintaining associated activity records and financial records, that are required for this role.
    • To undertake any other relevant duties required from time to time, as reasonably correspond to the general character of the post and commensurate with the level of responsibility.
    • To maintain confidentiality of the child and family at all times, sharing information only with the express permission of the young adult, unless a safeguarding concern arises.
